Rough Tendency
In today’s installment of our ‘Stat of the day’ feature, we are focusing on ‘Rough Tendency’. It is an ‘Off the Tee’ statistic that measures how many percent of the time a tee shot ends up in the rough.
The best tour players are generally very even in their misses. The average right tendency on the PGA Tour was around 18% in 2018; the average left tendency was around 16%. We can also divide this into other statistical variables such as ‘Right rough tendency – relative to par score’ etc which answers a very specific question: how was your scoring in relation to par from the right rough?
The rough tendency variables are important as they highlight your specific performance first off the tee, and then later they can help you understand what happens to your scoring variables when you then hit your subsequent shot from the rough.
